M.C. Escher
M.C. Escher (Maurits Cornelis Escher) lived from the 17th of June 1898 to the 27th of March 1972. He was born in Leeuwarden, Netherlands. He was not academically competent, he attended a 'special school', and had to repeat several grades. In 1919 Escher started at the 'Haarlem School of Architecture and Decorative Arts', however he switched after less than a year from Architecture to Decorative Arts. In 1924 Escher married Jetta Umiker, they moved to Rome and had one son, Giorgio Arnaldo Escher, in 1935. Through Escher's life he moved many times, never settling in one place for long. During World War 1, Escher moved back to the Netherlands where he created alot of very well-known artworks. There was only a short period of time-whilst he was having surgery-that he did not produce any more works. He died at the age of 72 in an artists retirement home.
